Pentax announce Postponement of Optio A40
Release Issued by Pentax:

Pentax Postpone Optio A40 Release

PENTAX Corporation announces that the release of Optio A40 compact digital camera is being postponed. Details are shown below.

Statement from Pentax:
We sincerely apologise to customers who have already ordered the camera, persons involved in product distribution, and representatives of the media.  PENTAX greatly appreciates your understanding in this matter.

Expected New Release Date: Early February 2008
(Original Release Date: Early November 2007)

Reason for Delay:
PENTAX Optio A40 was to be powered by a lithium-ion battery manufactured by Matsushita Battery Industrial Co., Ltd.  However, a fire at Matsushita's manufacturing plant has made procurement of the battery difficult and necessitated use of a different battery.  We have had to modify camera body specifications to accommodate the new battery, which has resulted in a rescheduling of the product release date.  New product specifications will be made available via our website and other media at the earliest possible date.
