Thirty REAL Photography Award nominees announced
Release Issued by Real:

International photography award attracts hundreds of entries

A five-member international jury chaired by Roger Hargreaves (GB) has today selected 30 nominees to compete for the international REAL Photography Award offering EUR 50,000 in prize money. During a two-day session in a closed room the jury deliberated on an incredible variety of work submitted by over 650 contemporary photographers from around the globe. The REAL Photography Award, launched by ING Real Estate earlier this year, has attracted both professional and non-professional photographers who have responded to the call to give their interpretation of the themes 'Nature, Development and Architecture.'

Roger Hargreaves: "It has been really exciting. The response has been overwhelming and we are extremely impressed with the rich quality, diversity and international dimension of the contemporary photography entered. We have enjoyed the point of view of each one of the participants. There are photographs that explore the analogue history of photography and respond to ideas representing nature, photography that uses digital technology to make interesting narrative comments and photography that explores the natural invasion of urban space." The jury faces the daunting task of selecting just one winner who will be announced early next year."

Entries have been submitted from photographers in countries including Australia, Austria, India, Curacao, Chilli, China, Japan, Mexico, South Africa, The Netherlands, Venezuela, UK and the USA. The photographs of the 30 nominees will be displayed at an exhibition to be announced at a later date and published in a full-colour illustrated catalogue.

Jury The Real Photography Award jury comprises Chairman Roger Hargreaves (GB), Curator of the National Portrait Gallery, Chaos Chen (China), photography curator of the Millennium Art Museum in Beijing, Lesley Martin (US), Editor-in-Chief of the Aperture Foundation, David Rogers (US), architect and urban designer of the Jerde Partnership and Frits Gierstberg, Head of Exhibitions, Netherlands Photo Institute and Professor of Photography at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam.

The REAL Photography Award
The REAL Photography Award 2007 is a new and unique bi-annual photography award, an ING Real Estate initiative designed to encourage and promote contemporary photography. It is the largest international contemporary photography award offering EUR 50,000 in prize money. The award is unique because of its themes, global nature - artists from all over the world can participate - and the amount of the prize money.
