Cyber-shot U40 - The Latest Fashion Accessory

New even slimmer Cyber-shot U to capture 24/7 lifestyle

Sony United Kingdom has announced a new slim addition to its Cyber-shot U range. Around 10% slimmer than its predecessor, the Cyber-shot DSC-U40 is the ultimate in stylish, pocket-sized Sony design, able to capture that perfect moment wherever you go.

“The Cyber-shot DSC-U40 is truly a camera for pocket life,” said Adam Williams, Product Manager for Digital Still Cameras, Sony United Kingdom. “It has a slim and stylish design and is packed with performance, offering all the quality you would expect from a Sony Cyber-shot U. ”

The DSC-U40 fits right into today’s highly connected lifestyle, delivering photo-quality images for those that are constantly in touch with a text message or an email. The slim-line and stylish metal body is the ideal accessory to always have on hand to capture every moment.

Ready when you are
The Cyber-shot U40 is easy to use and packed with features. Just slide the lens cover open and the camera is ready to take a 2 Megapixel image in one second. For viewing and composing pictures in any situation, the Cyber-shot DSC-U40 offers a hybrid 1-inch LCD display. The hybrid screen uses special imaging technology to let you see your subject as clearly in bright, outdoor conditions (such as at the beach or ski resort), as you would in indoor or lower light environments.

For even more convenience, the DSC-U40 has five scene selection modes that allow you to automatically prepare the camera to match the demands of the shooting situation: presets include Twilight, Active Outdoor, Soft Snap, Illumination Snap and Vivid Nature.

Compared to the shooting quality of earlier models, the DSC-U40 now also features a 5-mode White Balance setting, which enables you to produce accurate shots in a variety of different lighting conditions. The camera is also capable of a more powerful Burst Mode, with which it can take a rapid succession of 10 action shots in VGA mode or two shots at a high quality 2.0 effective Megapixel resolution. Supplied with 2 high-energy STAMINA rechargeable batteries, the camera has enough power to get the right shot.

Video on the move
The Cyber-shot DSC-U40 is capable of recording video without sound using Sony’s MPEG Movie EX technology, at a length depending only on the capacity of the Memory Stick Duo or Memory Stick PRO Duo installed. This makes it well suited for sending fun movies by email, for presentations and to record any occasion.

Connectivity
The Cyber-shot DSC-U40 has been well designed for connectivity. Both still images and movies are saved to a Memory Stick Duo capable of transferring your images between a wide range of Memory Stick compatible products such as TVs, phones and computers. As the Memory Stick Duo format is more compact than the standard size Memory Stick format, the DSC-U40 comes supplied with a Memory Stick adaptor, which makes it possible to play back content on devices with standard size Memory Stick slots.

The Cyber-shot DSC-U40 is PictBridge* compliant, which means you can print pictures directly from the camera. Users can select photographs on the display of their camera and send them directly to a PictBridge* compatible printer using the supplied USB cable – all without the need for a PC.

The DSC-U40 also comes with Image Transfer software. When connected via the USB cable, which also powers the camera, it automatically transfers your pictures to a PC for photo-editing or email.

The Cybershot DSC-U40 will be launched in the UK during January 2004 and will be available in three colours, blue, black and silver.
