The Fujifilm FinePix S602 digital compact camera has been hailed a superhero by owner Roy Sands of Herne Bay, Kent. Roy was on holiday with his wife when his beloved Fujifilm camera took a 100ft plunge from the historic Blarney Castle in Ireland. “My wife and I were almost at the top of the castle and we were keen to snap the beautiful views from the summit”, says Roy. “We were about six steps from the top when I rested my camera on the windowsill to get my breath and use my inhaler. Unbeknown to me at the time, the sill was tilted and my camera slid down the 2ft wide sill straight out the slit window, plummeting 100ft to the grass below. I thought that was it but when I got downstairs the camera was in full working order. The only thing that took a blow was the spring on the lens cover, which had snapped,” continues Roy. “Luckily, thanks to the unbelievable strength of the camera, I was able to go back up and take some more photos; the only nuisance was having to climb back up the 120 steps of the castle! Thank you Fujifilm.”
