Gitzo launch of an entirely new range in tripod technology
Release Issued by Gitzo:

Gitzo Celebrate 90 Years with a Brand New Range

Professionals all over the world acknowledge Gitzo tripods, monopods, heads and accessories as the benchmark for excellence. Synonymous with uncompromising quality through innovative design, materials and construction, Focus on Imaging 2007 sees Gitzo taking that reputation even further with the launch of an entirely new range and some fantastic advances in tripod technology.

You have to wonder what Arsene Gitzhoven, founder of the Gitzo mechanical design and engineering company in 1917, would make of digital cameras, and the subsequent needs of the photographers that use them. Yet surpassing those needs is exactly what his company continues to do some 90 years later...

New Innovations
Offering quiet operation and better reliability than the "click-lock" systems found on cheaper tripods, Gitzo have always featured twist locks for locking legs at the desired height.

New for 2007 the G-Lock system is an evolution of the twist-lock idea, making it substantially faster, stronger and more rigid than before. The unique cone shaped ramp and locking ring create a "gravity locking" effect - the higher the load applied vertically to the system the stronger the locking effect

The result is a range of Carbon 6X and Basalt Fibre tripods with dramatically increased maximum weight loads, more torsion stability than any other tripod, and a locking system that is incredibly fast and easy to use, even with cold or gloved hands.

Further innovation includes completely reworked upper discs on all models.

Carbon 6X models now benefit from a feature called Safe Lock. This newly developed material cuts vibrations and improves tripod-to-head lock, while the discs on Basalt and Aluminium tripods have also been improved, and are now made from strong yet light techno-polymer For even more versatility, Gitzo introduces the Ground Level Set across the range. This effective solution allows you to simply remove the centre column in just a few seconds, opening up even lower shooting angles.

New from the floor up, Gitzo present a modern take on a classic - the aluminium tripod. Using new materials the new aluminium series is some 30% lighter than its predecessor.

The most notable difference is in the tripod's top castings. Now made from a unique technical compound called Soulid 238, this amazing new material is 30% lighter than magnesium, but just as strong, and offers great vibration damping properties.

Adding to the weight reduction and vibration damping, Gitzo have specified the new aluminium tripods with a Basalt Fibre centre column (20% lighter than aluminium). The tripods are also featuring new ergonomic leg warmers made from a material 50% lighter than original foam grips.

The new Aluminium series even incorporates the new Ground Level Set all underlining Gitzo's commitment to developing the best quality and highest performance supports.

Available from just £229.95, the Aluminium series will be appearing in shops from April 2007.

Heads
Gitzo have some of the most beautifully engineered heads on the market today, from traditional ball and socket heads to the unconventional off-centre ball head series, through video-quality fluid heads.

New for 2007, Gitzo introduce the G2180 - an extremely compact and low profile fluid head. Made from Gitzo's unique Soulid 238 material, the head weighs in at just 570g - 30% less than it would had it been made from magnesium. Soulid 238 also has fantastic vibration absorption properties.

With Fluid movement, reflection free surfaces, vibration absorption, and easy operation even with the pan handle removed make this a perfect companion for wildlife photographers with long lenses and scopes. The Gitzo G2180 is available now, priced at £179.95.
