Three initial Lumix Awards winners revealed

The Lumix Award for 2003 has gotten off to a flying start. Three Monthly winners have already been rewarded for their interpretation of this year's theme - Man & Machine. The three have each won a Lumix DMC-FZ1 Digital Still Camera and a Tungsten Handheld from Palm.

The winners to date are:
June: Linda Wilson, with her series of images "Shining."
July: Reiner Felsmann, whose image "Fernsteuerung" evoked the comment,"...the fascination men have towards machines, independently of where they were born and of their social status", from Leticia Valverdes, the July judge.
August: Richard Willis, Richards's entry "The 51st Pickering Traction Engine Rally" caused Judge Carol Sharp to comment, "This is a very interesting image as you are not quite sure what is going on or whether it is a present day image - until you look more carefully and notice details like the boy's trainers!"

Check out the Winners page on the Lumix Award site to see Richard's work and read the judge's full comments. Could you do better?

With three months still left to run on the Competition, now is the time to let your members know that there is still a chance to win one of our super monthly prizes, or to go on and win our "Best in Awards" prize - a week-long photographic workshop in a European country. Airfares, accommodation and meals will be arranged and paid for by Panasonic. Specific details of the workshop and the exact dates will be posted on the Lumix Award website in the near future.

The Lumix award is all about creativity and the unique aspects of digital photography and has so far attracted registrations from over 1,000 keen photographers, in 16 different countries across Europe. All photographs entered into the competition must be taken with a digital camera. The versatile features of digital cameras allow you to throw off the restrictions of conventional film and introduce you to a whole new way of taking photographs. Have fun and experiment!
