Release Issued by Sony:
Taking High Definition Picture To New Levels:New Additions To HDV Handycam Line-Up
8th January, 2007 - Relive those special moments in spectacular detail with two new Sony HDV Handycam models. Available from February, the HDR-HC7E and HC5E boast unprecedented imaging performance and impressive new features, plus enhanced manual control for enthusiasts who value flexible operation as much as superlative HD picture quality.
Latest technology delivers optimum imaging performance
Combining superb picture quality of HDV 1080i with the convenience and affordability of miniDV tape, the HC5E and HC7E feature latest-generation ClearVid CMOS Sensor technology for High Definition pictures with greater resolution and sensitivity, wider dynamic range and reduced smear. Capture up to 6 Megapixel still images, with image quality further assured by the Carl Zeiss® Vario-Sonnar® T* lens and ‘Super SteadyShot’ optical image stabilisation (HC7E). Shooting in low light is also enhanced with a new Auto Slow Shutter function that automatically boosts minimum illumination performance to 2 lux compared with 5 lux on previous models, while Super NightShot allows shooting in low-light conditions right down to 0 lux.
x.v.Colour – the new standard for lifelike colours
Alongside other new Sony HD Handycam models, the HC5E and HC7E feature x.v.Colour. This Sony-developed technology complies with xvYCC (eXtended Video YCC), the newly-ratified ratified international standard that almost doubles the range of colours that can be accurately reproduced by video devices, covering almost 100 percent of natural colours. Closely matching the natural characteristics of the human eye, x.v.Colour reproduces more vivid, authentic reds, blues and greens beyond the limitations of the conventional sRGB colour space. x.v.Colour support also guarantees direct compatibility with latest televisions and other display devices that support the xvYCC standard.
Clear Photo LCD plus screen for vibrant colour and improved contrastShots can be composed and reviewed more easily – even outdoors in bright ambient light – thanks to the large flip-out LCD screen that uses Clear Photo LCD plus technology. This provides a wider colour gamut and improved contrast compared with normal hybrid screens. Additional zoom and recording start/stop buttons are positioned on the frame of the LCD screen for convenient operation when the camcorder is operated at waist level or mounted on a tripod.
View and enjoy pictures with full HD quality
Offering full 1080-line HD resolution, both models can connect directly to any BRAVIA television or HD Ready display via the on-board HDMI connector, and now come supplied with an iLINK cable and software for HDV editing using a connected PC. Like all preceding models, the newest additions to the Sony HDV Handycam range offer full playback compatibility with affordable, widely-available DV tapes.
Convenience meets control
HC7E provides convenient fingertip control of a wide range of manual functions. Focus, exposure, shutter speed and white balance can all be adjusted via the easy-to-reach Assignable Dial. Jack sockets are provided for enthusiasts who want to add their own headphone and an external microphone while shooting.
Go the distance with STAMINA battery technology
The HC5E and HC7E benefit from the latest generation of Sony H-Series InfoLITHIUM™ battery technology that extends shooting STAMINA up to 7 hours (HC5E, with optional battery) from a single charge.
Other features common to both models include HDV/DV switchable recording, backward compatibility with DV archives and Dual Rec function for simultaneous capture of high resolution still images during movie recording. Fast-moving action can be captured in Smooth Slow Rec that shoots at 200 frames per second, eliminating the judder of conventional slow motion playback with sound.
Also common to both models are a built-in flash for still photography, Active Interface Shoe and an Auto Lens Cover that slides shut to protect the Carl Zeiss® lens when the camcorder is not in use. A slot allows storage of still pictures onto removable Memory Stick DUO media.
Despite the wealth of new features, the HC5E and HC7E are remarkably simple to operate, even for novice users. Touching an on-screen ‘Guide’ icon activates the intuitive new Usage Guide, providing concise instructions on a wide range of recording and set-up functions.
Optional Accessories
From lenses, microphones and high-power batteries to tripods and stylish carry cases – there’s a full range of official accessories to help you get even more from your Handycam.
New-generation InfoLITHIUM™ H Series batteries feature Hybrid Lithium-Ion cells and ActiFORCE™ battery technology for higher capacity and faster recharging plus a more accurate, responsive indication of remaining capacity. Compatible with all latest Handycam models, three new batteries (NP-FH100, NP-FH70 and NP-FH50) offer capacities of 3980mAh, 1800mAh and 900mAh respectively. All can also be used with older camcorders using P Series batteries.
Two High Grade Lenses feature a newly-developed optical design that reduces their size and weight – making them an ideal match for latest ultra-portable Handycam models. Certified for High Definition video and still image use, the VCL-HG1737C tele conversion lens and VCL-HG0737C wide conversion lens are compatible with HD as well as higher-specification standard definition models. Two new wide angle lenses have also been introduced. The VCL-HA07A and the extremely compact VCL-E07A offer wider compatibility with the Handycam range at an even more affordable price.
Other additions include HDMI connecting cables and stylish carry cases, while the SPK-HCC Sports Pack waterproofs your Handycam down to 5 metres.
