HP Advances Digital Photography Vision with CARE and Santa Fe Photographic Workshops

NEW YORK, Nov. 2, 2006 – HP today announced it is collaborating with CARE and The Santa Fe Photographic Workshops on programs that demonstrate the quality and power of its expanded portfolio of photo printing solutions for the advanced amateur and professional photography markets.

By working with The Santa Fe Photographic Workshops, a leading education center for image makers, and CARE, a global, poverty-fighting humanitarian organization, HP is advancing its overall photography vision to bring the highest quality digital image reproduction solutions to a growing range of photography customers.

These relationships will leverage HP’s recently expanded digital photography portfolio, including the new professional photo-printing system, the HP Designjet Z Photo Printer series, and two new versatile photo printers designed for professionals, advanced amateurs and photo hobbyists, the HP Photosmart Pro B9180 and HP Photosmart Pro B8350.

“Working in close collaboration with these two renowned organizations, we’re able to showcase HP’s excellence in professional photo printing and stretch the limits with new applications and user experiences,” said Stephen Nigro, senior vice president, Graphics and Imaging Business, HP. “In addition, these relationships enable HP to work with photographers and customers in interactive environments that will help us continue to innovate in this segment and expand our leadership in color print technology.

HP named exclusive provider of printers for Santa Fe Photographic Workshops
HP will be the exclusive provider of photo and wide-format printers, ink and media for The Santa Fe Photographic Workshops’ year-round educational programs. Beginning in 2007, participants attending The Santa Fe Photographic Workshops’ week-long hands-on sessions will use the new HP Designjet Z Photo Printer series and the HP Photosmart Pro B9180 photo printer.

Both print systems employ HP Vivera pigment inks and HP’s Scalable Printing Technology to provide superior image quality, reliability and optimized ink consumption. HP will also supply a variety of media from its newly expanded portfolio of high-quality photographic and fine art papers.

A world-renowned learning and creativity center for image makers, The Santa Fe Photographic Workshops attracts more than 1,700 advanced amateur and professional photographers every year. Budding and experienced photographers have the opportunity to enjoy the beauty and serenity of Santa Fe, N.M., during workshops that cover a wide range of topics in black-and-white and color photography.

“We strive to offer our participants the opportunity to experience cutting-edge technology first-hand,” said Reid Callanan, director, The Santa Fe Photographic Workshops. “HP’s digital photography printers overwhelmed us with the quality of their output and the advances in color management. By working with HP, we will be able to broaden the creative possibilities for our participants – providing the best digital printing technology available.”

HP and CARE unveil “I Am Powerful” photography exhibit
Together with the humanitarian organization CARE, HP is unveiling the “I Am Powerful” exhibit at PhotoPlus Expo. Sharing a common belief in the power of photography to draw attention to social issues and be a catalyst for change, HP and CARE worked together closely to bring CARE’s work to life through the “I Am Powerful” images.

CARE helps women create lasting change for themselves, their families and their communities through hundreds of projects across 70 countries, and this exhibit showcases the power of women to take a pivotal role in the fight against poverty on a community level.

To create the exhibit, five photography teams were sent to CARE program sites in Angola, Cambodia, Egypt, India and Peru. The exhibit is filled with more than 20 poignant color and black-and-white photographs that were printed exclusively with the new HP Designjet Z Photo Printer series.

“Working with HP allows us to continue spreading the word about our work across the globe,” said Deb Neuman, senior vice president, External Relations, CARE. “At CARE, photography is one of the fundamental channels we use to chronicle our work, and this exhibit truly maintains the authenticity of our projects.”
