Olympus has chosen to simplify (some might say, dumb-down) the rear of the E-400. Functionally, the camera is very similar to the E-500, but while E-500 has several dedicated, programmable and multi-function controls on the back that the E-400 doesn't. This leaves a clutter-free layout, but it does mean you are forced to use the menu system and rear display to find and adjust settings. Luckily, Olympus provides a well-designed user interface for this.
