Canon announce three second generation DVD (-R/-RW/-R Dual Layer) camcorders

Release Issued by Canon:

Canon launches next generation 2.2 MP DVD camcorders – the DC19, DC21 and DC22

Canon, leader in photographic and imaging technology, is pleased to announce the launch of three second generation DVD (-R/-RW/-R Dual Layer) camcorders, the 2.2 Megapixel CCD DVD Camcorder DC19, DC21 and DC22, extend and strengthen Canon’s straight-to-DVD range. Like all Canon DVD camcorders, they are engineered for true 16:9 widescreen recording and incorporate an additional one-touch 4:3 mode. Designed for enhanced one-handed operation, the DC21 and DC22 feature a 10x optical zoom with Image Stabilizer and Canon’s DIGIC DV processor, providing simultaneous still and video capture. The DC22 has an additional AV input connection, for analogue-to-digital conversion – an easy way to archive older home movies on disc.

“With the DC40, Canon was the first company to bring a 4 Megapixel DVD camcorder to market and now, with these second generation models, we substantially strengthen our mid-range,” said Mogens Jensen, Head of Canon Consumer Imaging Europe. “The three new advanced consumer camcorders combine the convenience of DVD with outstanding image quality and are designed to meet the needs of busy young families.”

The new DC19, DC21 and DC22 feature:
2.2 Megapixel CCD imaging, recording video straight to DVD (-R/-RW/-R DL), with RGB Primary Colour Filter and simultaneous still capture to mini SD card
Improved ease-of-use for genuine one-handed operation, with slimline and stylish design
Second generation enhancements, including compatibility with cutting-edge dual layer disc technology (DVD-R DL)
Hi-Resolution 16:9 widescreen recording, with 2.7” widescreen LCD Canon 10x optical zoom with Electronic Image Stabilizer
AV-input, for easy analogue-to-digital conversion – perfect for archiving old home movies (DC22)
Powerful 2.2 Megapixel imaging

With a 2.2 Megapixel CCD, outstandingly vivid video is captured straight to DVD (-R/-RW/-R DL): users simply transfer a finalised disc to a compatible player to watch their footage. Canon’s RGB Primary Colour Filter provides more accurate gradation and colour reproduction. With simultaneous still capture to compact Mini SD card, DIGIC DV employs split processing paths to ensure that colours remain vibrant for both video and photos. With a flash for stills and PictBridge direct printing, all three are fully featured digital still cameras as well as advanced camcorders.

Slimline design
A new, more slimline shape has been designed with one-handed operation in mind. Blending form and function, controls are grouped together on the body’s back panel – the majority can be reached with just one hand.

Second generation technology
The second generation of Canon’s DVD technology is compatible with a wider range of popular DVD formats, now including Dual Layer discs. Compatible formats include -R, -RW and -R DL: a single Dual Layer DVD has a capacity of 2.66 GB and can store a generous 36 minutes of video at best quality (or 54 minutes at standard quality).

True widescreen
Canon camcorders are optimised for true 16:9 high resolution video, ideal for playback on wide television sets. The built-in 2.7” widescreen LCD allows footage to be monitored accurately. An on-screen level marker helps to centre the horizon line. The camcorder can be switched into 4:3 mode at the touch of a button.

10x optical zoom
A precision engineered, image stabilised 10x optical zoom ensures crisp and clear images. An electronically operated sliding lens cover is provided to protect the lens glass when not in use.

AV input
The step-up DC22 features an AV input connection. AV input is a perfect way to transfer old analogue home movies to disc for archiving.

Availability and reader enquiries
