Final call for entries for the Canon Digital Creators Contest 2003

Judges look for spontaneity, style and substance in Canon Digital Creators Contest 2003 entries Judges and previous winners offer artistic advice to digital artists looking to submit last minute entries to 2003 competition

LONDON, August 27 2003 Judges and former winners of the Canon Digital Creators Contest (CDCC) have come together to provide artistic and creative advice to this year's entrants as the deadline for the competitions 2003entries approaches on September 4.

One of this year's competition judges, Digital Domain, Inc. CEO, president and co-founder, Scott Ross, has offered his encouragement to professional and aspiring digital artists alike who are planning to submit a last minute entry for the CDCC, he said: "It's always about substance over form, not about how cool it looks. As a judge I am interested in how the piece makes me feel and would push entrants to speak from the heart, be original and take risks with their digital work."

The Canon Digital Creators Contest was launched in 2000 to encourage and support the use of imaging technology combined with imagination. In the last three years Canon has uncovered and rewarded new and innovative talent amongst people of all ages, from all backgrounds, who have fused human creativity and digital technology to communicate through still and moving images.

John Clive, an acknowledged pioneer of digital art and winner of the UK section of CDCC 2002, said: "Digital art is a fledgling art form, it needs patrons with vision and Canon is playing a major role in giving it the status it deserves. My advice to anyone thinking of entering would be to remember to use the technology to support the emotional content, not the other way around."

The growing use of simple, digital imaging technology, such as digital cameras, has made it easier for people of all ages to explore new avenues in visual expression.

One of the youngest entrants to receive a commendation from the judges in last year's CDCC was Ida Hoyrup, an 11 year old from Denmark, who is part of a generation of artists who have grown up with digital technology and are more comfortable with a digital camera than they are with a paint brushand easel. Ida said: "Competitions like the CDCC are very important to promote the growth of digital art. Taking part in the contest made me think more creatively and consider details such as light and composition and encouraged me to use my digital camera to capture new emotions and images."

Design professionals and amateurs of all ages are invited to submit original artwork to any of the Canon Digital Creators Contest collection points that have been established in Amsterdam, Tokyo, New York and Hong Kong.
Entries will be accepted until 5pm local time on September 4, 2003.
