Blu-ray has begun, Panasonic launches Blu-ray discs
Panasonic, one of the founder members of Blu-ray, is proud to launch the Blu-ray format in the UK. Extraordinary capacities
Blu-ray discs are able to record and playback extensive quantities of high definition video and audio, as well as photos, data and other video content. A single-layer Blu-ray disc, which is the same size as a DVD, can hold up to a staggering 50 GB of data (in comparison to a single layer DVD which holds 4.7GB) - that's more than four hours of high-definition video or about 26 hours of standard video with no loss of quality.
Effortless navigation
Blu-ray discs enable you to instantly skip to any spot on the disc and create, edit or re-order programmes and play lists, thus enabling easy navigation around the discs. What?s more, you can watch one programme whilst recording another, Panasonic's Blu-ray discs offer the ultimate in flexible DVD recording
Durable discs
Panasonic's LM-BE25DE and LM-BE50DE re-writable Blu-ray discs use an original, highly sensitive and durable recording film. This further enhances the stable recording and playback characteristics and is of particular importance for PC use, where data is frequently rewritten. The result is crisp and clear recordings every time. Panasonic's LM-BR25DE and LM-BR50DE write once discs use an inorganic material which is unaffected by light, thus ensuring safe and long-lasting storage of cherished keepsakes.
Adding to this durability, Panasonic Blu-ray discs use an advanced spin coating process technology to form the cover layer with extremely uniform thickness. This is the key element for stable and premium data recording. The discs also have a hard coated cover layer, which is a newly developed surface-treatment technology.
Scratched discs will be a thing of the past as Blu-ray discs ensure high reliability and durability even without a cartridge. Panasonic's LM-BR25DE and LM-BR50DE (write once) and LM-BE25DE and LM-BE50DE (re-writable) 25 and 50 GB Blu-ray discs will be available from Spring 2005.
