Get smoother image display on flat panel monitors equipped with HDMI interfaces

Press release: Samsung Unveils the New High-Performance Digimax L85

One of the more interesting compact camera releases at PMA is the Samsung Digimax L85. Besides being quite an interesting and unusual looking retro-style 5 megapixel 3x zoom camera, the L85 is touted by Samsung as the first still digital camera to support a HDMI, or High Definition Multimedia Interface. This is a new digital standard for connecting media devices to high resolution digital displays. Many new flat panel monitor displays and TVs now offer HDMI ports, though there have been few products to connect to them.

The benefit of HDMI is better use of the digital data on the screen, resulting in a more natural and smoother rendition; definitely a plus for digital still images.

L85 claimed pride of place

Samsung launched a lot of new compact cameras at PMA, but the L85 claimed pride of place in the Samsung booth.

L85 with HDMI docking station

The Samsung Digimax L85 is not supplied as standard with a HDMI docking station, but we were told it will be a reasonably inexpensive option costing around £30.
