Swannell Returns To The Isle Of Wight
Olympus brings John Swannell’s photography exhibition I’m Still Standing to Dimbola Lodge, Freshwater Bay, the Isle of Wight. The photographic display taken from Swannell’s book of the same title, will go on show to the public at Dimbola Lodge from the 5th September until the end of December 2003.
Swannell's exhibition - I'm Still Standing - is a photographic tribute to real celebrities: men and women with talent, style and, above all, enduring success. It features portraits of the most established names in Britain, from Roger Moore, John Gielgud, Dame Judi Dench, Barbara Windsor, Twiggy and Billy Connelly to Her Majesty the Queen.
As long-standing sponsors of the photographic museum at Dimbola Lodge, Graeme Chapman, managing director of Olympus UK commented: “This exhibition is portrait photography at its best. John Swannell’s style is unique and instantly recognisable - the lighting is amazing and the compositions are impressive. Even though his subjects have probably been photographed a thousand times before, he always finds a new angle. We are very excited to be welcoming him back to Dimbola Lodge.”
The opening of this photographic exhibition also coincides with the renovation of Julia Margaret Cameron’s original bedroom at Dimbola Lodge, situated next to the Olympus Gallery. Every nook and cranny in this room, from its Adam-style bed with intricate cane-work panels to the carved alcove, has been fully restored to its former glory. It is said, that from this room she would watch out for any good-looking passers-by and send her maid to beg them to come and pose before her camera.
Dimbola Lodge is open to the public 10am – 5pm from Tuesday – Sunday inclusive.
Gallery admission charges: Adults - £3.50; Children under 16 yrs - Free
