More than 40 new consumer products

Read our News Story: Canon Pixma ink jet evolution surprise.

Canon, leader in photographic and imaging technology, is pleased to announce the launch of over 40 new consumer products as part of its Autumn collection, including seven digital still cameras, two Digital SLRs and Image Stabiliser lenses, three digital video cameras, 11 designer PIXMA photo printers, three SELPHY Compact Photo Printers and three Multimedia Projectors. The launch demonstrates Canon's unique position as a manufacturer with expertise in both image capture and image output solutions.

Canon holds the number one market position within Europe for Digital Still Cameras, both Digital and Analogue SLRs, scanners and Compact Photo Printers. This reflects Canon's ongoing investment commitment to focused Research and Development, the innovation and commercialisation of leading technologies, and the policy of manufacturing all key components. In the last decade, Canon has invested 16 billion Euro in research and development - more than four times that of any other imaging manufacturer. In 2004, Canon received the third highest number of US patents, with nearly 1805 registered.

"In 2005 the imaging market is peaking in terms of competitiveness," said Mogens Jensen, Head of Canon Consumer Imaging Europe. "Our financial stability, technology advantages, manufacturing infrastructure and R&D investment are critical in attaining the number one position across our core product groups in Europe."

Significant product announcements from Canon include:

  • The EOS 5D creates a new D-SLR category combining a full frame CMOS sensor with a lightweight, compact body. The camera is Canon's third full-frame sensor camera and benefits from over five years of in-house CMOS technology since the original EOS D30.

  • The EOS 1D Mark II N replaces the EOS-1D Mark II, Europe's best selling professional D-SLR camera. The new camera has a higher performance buffer to deliver a 48 frame burst in JPEG and 22 frame burst in RAW.

  • With the launch of seven new models, Canon continues to drive growth in the digital still camera market, which has seen growth of 1140% since August 2000 . The three new Digital IXUS cameras continue to evolve the iconic IXUS design and incorporate the same DIGIC II processing technology as Canon's professional EOS-1 series D-SLRs.

  • Canon releases the first 4 Megapixel CCD digital video camera - the flagship MVX4i, while the launch of the new super-stylish 1/4" 1.33 Megapixel DC10 and 1/3.9" 2.2 Megapixel DC20 drives demand in the DVD digital video camera market, which saw growth of 742% between 2003 and 2004.

  • Three additions to the SELPHY Compact Photo Printer range were introduced to drive demand in the rapidly growing home photo printing market, which saw 300% growth from March 2004 to March 2005 . Home photo printing revenue is predicted to grow from $3 billion to over $8 billion in 2008.

  • The new range of 11 PIXMA products2, including five multifunction devices, features FINE (Full-Photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering) technology for fast photolab quality prints. The new models are up to 58% faster than previous PIXMA models. This range features Canon's new ChromaLife100 system for improved fade resistance. Confirming its commitment to photo printing, Canon recently announced a $100 million investment in a new inkjet manufacturing facility in Vietnam.

  • Canon launches the LV-X5 multimedia projector to suit the needs of the education market, while the new 2100 lumens LV-7240 and 2500 lumens LV-7245 specifically meet the requirements of business users.
