Release Issued by Canon:
The ultimate PIXMA photo centre.
Amstelveen, The Netherlands, 22 August 2005. Canon, a leader in photographic and imaging technology, today announces the release of the PIXMA MP800 the premium PIXMA multifunctional photo centre. Offering PC-less printing from virtually any source or device, the sleek designer unit integrates PictBridge, IrDA, optional Bluetooth and memory card connectivity, plus a Film Adapter Unit for direct scan-to-print from 35mm film.
With its FINE (Full-Photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering) print head, the MP800 uses significantly more colour nozzles than the equivalent top model of any other brand to produce 10 x 15cm lab-quality photo prints in approx 36 seconds.
It incorporates
Approx. 36 second 10 x 15cm borderless photolab quality prints
9600 x2400 dpi, 1 picolitre , 5 ink photo printing
Extensive connectivity including memory card slot, PictBridge, IrDA and Bluetooth for printing from compatible mobile phones/PDAs
Large 8.9cm colour LCD for image preview, enhancement and cropping
Film Adapter Unit for 35mm film/transparency scanning
2400x4800 dpi high resolution flatbed scanner
High speed document copier: 30cpm (mono) and 24cpm (colour)
DVD/CD printing, auto duplex printing, dual paper tray
For long lasting fade-resistant prints, the MP800 features the new ChromaLife100 system. When used in conjunction with Canon media, ChromaLife100 produces prints that resist fading for 100 years when stored in an album. Prints exposed unframed to the effects of the air resist fading for 10 years if printed on Photo Paper Pro (PR-101)
As the flagship of the PIXMA multifunctional range, the MP800 brings together the finest of Canon's colour imaging, photo printing, document handling, scanning and copying technologies, says Mogens Jensen, Head of Canon Consumer Imaging, Europe.
Simply the Fastest
The super fast MP800 incorporates the same FINE print engine as Canon's premium iP5200 photo printer. It produces microscopic 1 picolitre2 droplets from over 3500 individual 9 m diameter Micro-Nozzles.
This gets more ink on the page with great accuracy in less time, producing virtually grain-free photolab quality borderless prints up to A4 size at unrivalled speed. In the growing photo print market, people are placing increasing importance on speed and print quality, said Mogens Jensen, Head of Canon Consumer Imaging, Europe. The ability to achieve both simultaneously is the key competitive advantage of Canon's FINE technology.
A USB 2.0 Hi-Speed interface eliminates data transfer bottlenecks to keep performance at maximum capacity.
Direct Printing
To support direct printing without a computer, the MP800s large 8.9cm colour LCD screen can be used to
Preview images and page layouts
Print directly to DVD/CDs
Preview image trimming or cropping
The MP800 is equipped with a range of built-in image enhancement features, so photographs can be improved using the PC. Red-eye Correction automatically detects and corrects red eyes, while Face Brightener can distinguish and increase the brightness of faces when they are in shadow. Prints of low-resolution images, such as those taken on a camera phone, are optimised with the image optimiser function softening jagged outlines and reducing JPEG block noises.
Also, a PHOTO/FILM button exclusively for photo reprints has been added to the operation panel. With this button, reprints of photo prints and 35 mm film can now be easily made without using a computer. It is also possible to apply image editing like Fading Correction and Face Brightener as well as trimming the image and copying onto the label of a DVD/CD.
Wireless printing from Bluetooth compatible camera phones and PDAs is available with the optional new super compact BU-20 Bluetooth adapter, which plugs into the printers PictBridge port.
Advanced Media Handling
The MP800 also incorporates Canon's Advanced Media Handling system, with dual paper trays so the printer can be loaded with plain paper and photo media simultaneously as well as auto duplex printing and integrated DVD/CD printing.
Quality that lasts
For improved fade resistance, the printer supports Canon's new ChromaLife100: a system of genuine Canon dye-based inks, which deliver exceptionally broad colour gamut, and specialised photo paper designed to work together with FINE print heads. This technology triangle of nozzle design, ink and media produces prints that rival silver halide quality and longevity. Prints resist fading for 100 years when album-stored, 30 years when displayed under glass and 10 years when exposed to the effects of the air3.
Superior scanning
As well as scanning from film with the Film Adapter Unit, the MP800 provides the user with advanced 2400 x 4800 dpi scanning. It features Multi Scan, which can scan up to 10 photos as multiple single images at a time, and automatically corrects tilted images. With push scanning, users can send film or photos to PC using only the control panel, while a scan to PDF function creates PDFs from original documents without use of conversion software. PDF file pages can be easily added into previously created PDF files with MP Navigator. Featuring automatic OCR (Optical Character Recognition), text is embedded into the PDF file for convenient searching.
Perfect Copying
As well as the speed expected from any excellent copier, the MP800 features Auto Exposure (AE) copying, where the document is pre-scanned to give optimum results for text, photos and background. With 4-on-1 copying, four original documents can be copied onto one page, and a new feature allows MP800 to copy direct onto DVD and CD.
Ink efficiency
The printers individual ink tanks ensure that only those inks which run out need to be replaced. They feature LEDs that only light up when the tanks are installed correctly. Users can monitor ink levels during stand-alone use without the use of the computer screen, as the LEDs flash slowly to warn when the tank runs low, and more rapidly to indicate when the cartridge is empty.
Matching media
Canon's competitive advantage in printer hardware technology is fully realised when genuine Canon photo grade media and inks are used. The diverse and growing range of Canon media including the new affordable Glossy Photo Paper Everyday Use GP-501 is developed specifically to work in combination with Canon's FINE ink jet print technology. Photo papers and media are available in a wide range of sizes (from credit card to A4), formats (including mini stickers) and finishes (from matt to semi-gloss to full gloss). They include double-sided photo paper (PP-101D 5 x 7cm and PP-101D A4) and the flagship Photo Paper Pro (PR-101) for the highest grade, ultimate durability professional results.
Bundled Software
MP800 software as standard includes:
MP Navigator 2.0 helps users get immediate optimum results with minimum fuss. Users simply select the required process and desired output. Version 2.0 features: improved PDF functionality; improved zoom window for scanned images; additional buttons and controls for greater usability; and options to scan from colour magazines or film.
Easy-PhotoPrint provides three easy steps to printing photos, assisting with media selection, scaling and photo effects.
Easy-WebPrint (Windows only) sits on the Internet Explorer toolbar to simplify web page printing.
ScanSoft OmniPage SE Optical Character Recognition application that converts scanned text into characters for editing or storage as a searchable text file.
Arcsoft PhotoStudio an image-editing program featuring automatic colour and tone enhancement, cloning, animated 3D text and over 40 special effects.
CD-LabelPrint Simplifies printing directly onto print-ready CD-R and DVDs
The MP800 is compatible with Windows 98/Me/2000/XP, and Mac OS X v10.2.4 or later.
