Sony DVD Camcorders Make Movies Easier

Released by Sony:

Sony DVD Camcorders Make Movies Easier

DVD brings new possibilities to home movies for all the family

Following the announcement from Sony earlier this year, Sony’s new DVD camcorders are to be launched in the UK during November. The new models will allow consumers to use a camcorder to shoot, play and share precious moments directly onto a DVD disc, with minimum fuss.

The Handycam DCR-DVD100 and DCR-DVD200 make it possible to film your family and quickly send the movie to friends and relations across the world on a lightweight and durable DVD disc. With its high quality sound and image, the DVD format brings quality to your home movies. It is compact, being easier to carry, shelve and archive than videotape and does not take up as much space in the camcorder. It is also far easier to keep high quality footage of cherished family memories on DVD as you can have instant access to any scene. DVD discs cannot be accidentally erased and they never need rewinding. The 8cm DVD Discs used by the Handycam range can be played back on most consumer DVD players as well as compatible PCs with DVD drives and Sony PlayStation 2 consoles .

“The DVD revolution has well and truly arrived,” said Shaun Dorrington, Product Manager, Camcorder’s Sony UK . “The reliability, convenience and ease of use of the format and incredible popularity of DVD players means that DVD is a format for the future. These two brand new models, the DCR-DVD100 and DCR-DVD200, combine the comprehensive features you would expect of the Handycam family with all the benefits of DVD. Now everyone can be a film director and play their movies back on their home DVD player or DVD-equipped PC.”

The 8cm DVD discs are available in either DVD-R (for one-time recording) and DVD-RW (for rewritable recording approximately 1,000 times) disc formats. DVD disc (1.4GB) can hold up to 60 minutes of video recording. Both movies and still images can be recorded on the same DVD-R or DVD-RW disc.

Simplify film-making with Sony
Once filming is complete, your video can also be played back and edited on a PC using the supplied “PIXELA ImageMixer software for Sony DVD Handycam”. This user-friendly software makes filmmaking easy and once you have made your movie, it is simple to make as many more copies as required. DVD Discs can be duplicated when the Handycam is connected to a PC even if the PC has no DVD burner .

The Handycam DCR-DVD200 is a 1 Mega pixel camcorder, while the DCR-DVD-100 sports an 800,000 pixel CCD. Both are capable of delivering high quality video and still images (JPEG format) at variable resolutions. Both models offer excellent image quality and Handycam engineering including a Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar lens with a 10 x optical zoom, 120 x precision digital zoom, a 2.5 inch LCD screen and USB 2.0 interface for high-speed PC connectivity. Stylishly designed, the camcorders are among the first to display Sony’s new brand logo for the Handycam range.

The DCR-DVD100 and DCR-DVD200 will be available across Europe from November 2003.
