Jessops Parliamentary Photography Competition

Release Issued by Jessops:

MPs And Peers Snap Up Photographic Prizes

Five MPs and Peers have snapped up a winning place in the prestigious Jessops Parliamentary Photography Competition.

Almost 400 images were entered in this year’s contest by Parliamentarians - and whittled down to a winning six by a panel of expert judges.

The final line-up, reflecting a diverse range of subjects and style, were taken by two Peers and three MPs, and included two images taken by the Chairman of the Parliamentary All Party Photography Group, Austin Mitchell.

The MP’s winning photographs comprised Austin Mitchell’s ‘One Man and His Bike’ and ‘California Dreaming’, Meg Munn’s ‘Spider’ and Andrew Miller’s ‘Catherine Wheel’.

The successful Peers entries were Lord Alton’s ‘Orphans Optimism’ and Lord Allenby’s ‘Lone Ranger’.

Former Mirror Group Chief Photographer Mike Maloney OBE, Chairman of the judging panel, said: “Selecting just six winning images was a difficult task – the standard of entries was extremely high.

“Photographic talent clearly flourishes in Parliament, with MPs and Peers boasting impressive skill.”

Each winning entry receives £100, which will be donated to children’s cancer charity CLIC Sargent – Jessops’ adopted charity.

More than 100 entries have been enlarged by Jessops for exhibition in the House of Commons. A selection of images will also be touring Jessops stores later in the year. Visit www.Jessops.com/parliament for further details.
