Lexar Expands Award-Winning Professional Series Flash Memory Cards and Accessories
Lexar has expanded its Professional Series of flash memory cards and accessories with the introduction of two new products. The Professional Memory Stick PRO™, speed rated at 80X, and Professional Secure Digital™ (SD), speed rated at 60X were announced at PMA in February. Newly designed, eye-catching packaging for Professional Series flash memory cards was also unveiled.
"The professional photography sector is evolving rapidly and we are staying ahead of the ever-changing demands that this brings about by expanding our Professional Series range," said Steve Marriott, Lexar's UK based Senior Marketing Manager EMEA.
“Improving the product packaging keeps us out in front as well, because a suite of easily identifiable cards and accessories benefits retailers and photographers alike.
"The introduction of Professional SD, Professional Memory Stick PRO and feature-specific CompactFlash™ to our product line-up, confirms our commitment to providing professional photographers with the highest performing and most reliable digital media products,” he added.
Professional Memory Stick PRO
Professional Memory Stick PRO is the most recent addition to Lexar’s professional line-up. Speed rated at 80X, equivalent to a minimum sustained read and write speed of 12MB per second, it is aimed at professionals and consumers who need the fastest data read and write speeds available, and want them in the Memory Stick PRO format.
The industrial design of the Professional Memory Stick PRO differs slightly from earlier versions of this format, to incorporate a black plastic housing and opaque plastic underside.
“We’ve seen a slight shift in the buying habits of high-end digital imaging customers,” said Chris Chute, senior analyst within IDC’s imaging group. “While CompactFlash is still the most popular form of memory card in the professional photography sector, many popular high-end digital cameras now accept SD and Memory Stick PRO. Lexar is maintaining alignment with the market by offering additional popular memory card formats,” he added.
New look packaging
The redesigned product packaging for the Professional Series includes new flash memory card boxes and card labels.
Image Rescue™ software from Lexar and a trial version of Photo Mechanic™ from Camera Bits, the popular image browsing software currently exclusively distributed by Lexar, will also ship in the newly designed packaging. Currently, Lexar distributes Photo Mechanic version 4.3.
The new packaging is consistent with Lexar’s new corporate identity, which together with its striking design, will ensure that products are easily recognisable as Lexar in stores.
Lexar's Professional Series product line-up
The new Professional Memory Stick PRO joins a wide variety of flash memory cards and capacities, including the award-winning 80X speed-rated CompactFlash, Active Memory™ CompactFlash and LockTight™ CompactFlash, with capacities covering 512MB, 1GB, 2GB and 4GB. In addition, the professional product range features Lexar’s 8GB CompactFlash, speed-rated at 40X, and Professional Secure Digital, speed-rated at 60X and shipping in capacities of 1GB. (Lexar defines “X” within its speed-rating system as equivalent to a minimum write speed capability of 150 kilobytes per second.)
