Kodak focuses the mobility of pictures

Kodak at photokina 2004 in Cologne, Hall 4

Hemel Hempstead , September 2004 – The Eastman Kodak Company will again be housed in hall 4 as the largest exhibitor during this year’s photokina trade show held from September 28 through October 3, 2004 in Cologne. It will be Kodak’s largest photokina appearance ever with more than 8.000 square meters of exhibition space. Kodak will demonstrate a broad array of analogue and digital photographic products, solutions and services for amateurs and professionals as well as for commercial users. In addition, the subsidiary companies Encad and NexPress – representing the new formed Graphic Communications Group – will be part of the show.

At photokina Kodak focuses on the mobility and universality of pictures. It is connecting its products and services into a complete digital imaging system. Among many other products, the new Kodak EasyShare Printer Dock Plus illustrates this. People can wirelessly transmit pictures from their mobile phone cameras to the Printer Dock Plus, which also prints directly from digital cameras and memory cards — all without the need for a computer. In today’s communication pictures are omnipresent, available anytime, anywhere, at work, and more than ever in our social lives. Pictures are the most compelling element of communication – understood by everyone worldwide, regardless of whether they are received as hardcopy prints, large-format posters, via email or even via mobile phonecams.

Alongside this new and fascinating world of virtual pictures, the real picture on photo paper will still play an important role in the future. However, the communication of pictures is only one facet of imaging. Pictures can be valuable documents of our lives, and pictures can create emotions. People use prints to share with others or to put into a photo album or a picture frame.

Simplicity is the key to the future of photography
Technology should serve the people – and not the other way round. Consequently, and in true keeping with the George Eastman philosophy, all Kodak products, solutions and services maintain this ease-of-use concept. Consumer Photography is first and foremost about sharing. The portfolio of Kodak’s EasyShare digital cameras typifies this message. They deliver high quality pictures and due to the innovative EasyShare software these cameras are very easy to use. Immediate prints at home are no problem with the new EasyShare printer docks, where users can get top quality 4x6 prints, no computer required.

An easy way for consumers to get large orders of pictures is to go to a retailer, who delivers prints on Kodak Picture Maker Kiosk and Kodak’s digital minilabs. At retail consumers can now get prints on high quality photo paper in minutes. Kodak has placed more than 1,500 kiosks in the U.K. market and 50,000 worldwide.

Mobile Imaging –Mobile phone pictures
The Kodak Mobile Service – shown at photokina – is an easy-to-use, comprehensive service available for the growing number of consumers using camera-enabled mobile phones. With the Kodak Mobile Service, these consumers can view, share, organise, store and print their pictures and videos on the go. This unique mobile imaging service is accessible online at www.kodakmobile.eu.com, or with camera-enabled mobile phones supporting WAP 2.0.

Kodak has also created a handset application designed to quickly and easily upload pictures and videos from camera phones to private albums. Users of Nokia 7610, Nokia 7650 and Nokia 3650 are the first to take advantage of this latest development in imaging technology. Once uploaded, pictures may be consulted at any time on any compatible mobile phone, providing a genuine mobile photo album service. Finally, using Bluetooth and infrared wireless transfer technologies, customers can use enhanced Kodak Picture Maker Kiosks and the EasyShare Printer Dock Plus to get prints of images from camera phones within seconds.

Commercial printing
At photokina Kodak will showcase the commercial side of picture business as well. Through NexPress and Encad, both of which are part of Kodak’s Graphic Communications Group, Kodak now plays an important role in digital colour and monochrome printing solutions and large-format ink jet printing.

Kodak presents these products solutions and services and many others during this year’s photokina in Cologne. Kodak will demonstrate to the customers and the consumers how easy it is to make more of pictures and to make more with pictures.
