Digital still camera manufacturers to achieve DxO standard of image quality
Paris, France, September 15th, 2004 – DxO Labs, a software company focused on research in image processing to enhance image quality, announces the availability of its award-winning DxO image enhancement technology embedded in the new Texas Instruments (TI) DSP-based DM320 digital media processor targeted at digital still camera manufacturers. A first prototype of the innovative DxO technology running on the TI DM320 will be demonstrated at Photokina ’04 illustrating the breakthrough gain in image quality for photographers.
“Building on the success of our DxO Optics Pro software – widely accepted by demanding photographers around the world as the ultimate image quality tool – we are thrilled to bring the value of DxO technology to the general consumer imaging market,” said Jerome Meniere, founder and CEO of DxO labs. “Combining the powerful and efficient Texas Instruments DM320 processor with the embedded DxO technology enables digital camera manufacturers to offer average digital camera users access to unparalleled image quality in almost all picture taking situations.”
“We are excited at the prospect of bringing the DxO image quality enhancement to our customers,” added John Daniels, worldwide marketing manager for TI's Digital Camera Solutions Group, Texas Instruments. “The DM320 media processor has already received a warm reception from our customers and prospects alike. We believe the incorporation of the innovative DxO technology will make an even more compelling value proposition for digital still camera manufacturers seeking to deliver the best results for digital camera users.”
DxO Labs’ patented DxO technology automatically enhances image quality by addressing the major challenges that impact the imaging chain: blur, contrast, noise, demosaicing, distortion, vignetting, chromatic aberration, etc. DxO technology allows Digital Still Camera (DSC) manufacturers to radically change the way they design their DSC products resulting in new product positioning, increased market share, and costs savings.
Texas Instruments’ digital media processor family of products are optimized for digital camera applications, leveraging a highly efficient, low-power TMS320C54x digital signal processor (DSP) core, an ARM® RISC processor, plus video and imaging coprocessors to improve performance. The flexibility and programmability of the digital media processors enable camera manufacturers to expand the breadth of their portable imaging and multimedia products while reducing development costs.
The demonstration will be shown at the Photokina ’04 trade show in Cologne, Germany at the Texas Instruments booth in Hall 11.1, Stand B028.
