We aren’t blessed with that many photography equipment shows in the UK. The Digital Camera Show, that finished after a three day airing at the London Excel centre yesterday, is arguably the number 2 event to February’s annual Focus show, which is held in Birmingham.

In fact the Digital Camera Show is really an extension of Digital Solutions, a digital imaging show aimed at the professional and pre-press industries.

The Excel exhibition centre is an agreeable modern complex for shows like Digital Solutions. But if you expected to find a separate hall and identity for the Digital Camera Show, you’d be disappointed. Exhibits for both show headings were cheek by jowl.

There was no headline-grabbing news from the show. It was more an event to meet companies and get your hands on gear that might have been difficult to get demonstrated locally. We don’t yet have official attendance figures, but the throng was considerable on the first day, tailing off on the second and third days.

So here are a few shots of the show from the viewpoint of our camera:

Epson were showing off some extraordinary large format colour prints.

Someone at the organisers obviously had a sense of humour - Lyson, who make replacement ink cartridges, were placed right next to Epson...

Canon had one of the bigger stands and their staff were kept very busy.

Sony had an impressive looking stand, which you had to look up to - literally!

The RPS (Royal Photographic Society) was on hand with a photography exhibition.

We only spotted one of the newsstand photo magazines at the show - Digital Photo User - a fact that went down rather well with them!

HP had some big and I mean, big, printers to show off.

A show without Kodak would be unthinkable - but their stand was somehow cut off from where the action was.

Fujifilm, working hard to maintain their No.1 position in the UK digicam stakes
