Olympus launched what many regarded as the digital version of their ever-popular Mu ultra-compact camera back in March. This basic 1.3 megapixel entry-level Camedia C-1 (also known as the C-You in some markets) now has a zoom-equipped sibling, the Camedia C-1 Zoom.
The 3X optical zoom is supplemented by a 2X digital zoom multiplier. We don’t usually recommend the use of a digital zoom mode, but it’s useful if you don’t have time to edit a picture after it has been taken.
The C-1 Zoom is blessed with a lens that has an unusually fast maximum aperture of f/2.4 for a budget model. Unlike some of the competition in this price range, you also get autofocus and automatic exposure modes, plus auto exposure overrides. Olympus remains faithful to the SmartMedia memory card standard with the C-1 Zoom
At £299, the Camedia C1-Zoom is an attractive looking budget camera. We look forward to testing one soon.
