Epson is the latest addition to the online Web photo hosting and printing service bandwagon with Epson Photo Site.
As you’d expect, you register online and then you’re given access to photo album creation tools. Once you have uploaded photos to your albums, you can invite people to look at them online. There are also plenty of options at your disposal, including photo cropping, special effects like warping, montage and red-eye correction.
Where Epson’s service differs from many of the others is that there is no commercial lure of online printing services. Epson wants to stimulate the use of its printers in customers’ homes and offices in order to sell all-important consumables.
For example, there is the facility to take a photo and incorporate it into some electronic greeting card artwork and then to email it. But the same cards can also be printed out and posted via snail mail. Photos in single or multi-layout can be arranged on-screen and then printed via the printer attached to your PC. Templates are also available that support specific Epson paper sizes, but Epson doesn’t lock out owners of rival printers.
