Photosmart mini printer updated by HP | ||||
By Ian Burley | ||||
The original HP Photosmart 100 has to be one of HP’s best kept secrets and the new 130 model is suitably upgraded to be compatible with SD and MMC memory cards as well as Compact Flash, SmartMedia and Sony Memory Stick cards. Both the Photosmart 100 and 130, which are mini photo printers that work exclusively with 6x4 inch media, are beautifully engineered and easy to use. You can either print directly from an inserted memory card or conventionally via a PC. Although printing is via a three colour ink-jet process only, we rate the photo quality as very good. We’re currently testing a 100 model and the only problems we have come across so far include the inability of the printer to cope with 5 megapixel images from an Olympus E-20 and lack of IBM Microdrive compatibility. The P100 has a maximum resolution of 2400x1200dpi, but HP’s information on the P130 suggests the new model enjoys enhanced resolution of 4800x1200dpi. In Euros, the provisional price for the Photosmart 130 is €179, which suggests there may be a small price increase over the P100 model, which is priced £117.50 including VAT. Below is HP’s officially released information concerning the Photosmart 130: HP Photosmart 130 Photo Printer All information regarding this product is under embargo until June 24, 2002.
