Update - To all our many North American visitors, I’ve just noticed that Phil Askey, owner and Webmaster of the biggest camera review site on the Web, Digital Photography Review, has indicated the DSC-FX77 and F77 are not destined for the US market - click here. The bad news is that Phil is very rarely wrong!

Sony revives DSC-F1 style in new ultra compact 4MP DSC-FX77

It’s no less than six years since Sony wowed the world with its cute little DSC-F1 digicam (see right). This 640x480 pixel Sony had the novel ability to swivel the lens from front to back - just like the new, but even smaller, 4MP Sony DSC-FX77.

The FX77 has a fixed focal length (35mm equivalent) Carl-Zeiss branded Distagon lens. A clip on accessory lens can be added to change the field of view if the built in digital zoom is not enough. Although the tiny lens is non-zooming, it does autofocus, assisted in low light by an AF illuminator.

A docking cradle for battery charging and PC USB connection is provided. The FX77 can also be used for voice memo recordings and also MPEG HQX movie clips can be shot, including sound.

Bluetooth wireless connectivity is provided, though a model without bluetooth, the F77, will also be available when shipments start in November.
