Talking You're 'avin a giraffe!

Anybody got some Christmas pennies they want to spend? Came across this whilst mooching around various sites Glad to see the price includes the VAT and check out the closest focusing distance

There was at least one Birder/Photographer I came across (in BF) who uses, or used a lens that cost about the same price as that one. I think the one he was using was selling at 6000 when I first came across his work. I forget now what the focal length was, though it wasn't quite as long as 1200mm. I seem to remember he sometimes used it with a converter. I also remember him showing some fabulous photos from it.

So that minimum focusing distance probably wouldn't be a problem to the sort of person who went for that size of lens. Mind you - they'd need strong arms, a strong back and a chunky car or truck though, eh.

So d'ya think you might be going for one, Jo?

Jo, here's a link to his website, which has links to his various other places.

He has his kit listed on his flickr profile and the largest lens he uses is the one shown HERE.

Re: You're 'avin a giraffe!

Did you read the price correctly Pol - this monkey is over 68 thousand pounds!! (although 6K is enough to make the eyes water!) Good job I'm not a birder - I've neither got strong arms, back or a chunky car. The 68K is not a problem though !

Erm ... erm ...

No, I didn't read the price correctly! I'd read it as 6800 so I'd been wondering why his was half the focal length yet apparently more expensive.
