Re: the photographist

for me.. it is that door knob that sucks me into the picture! incredible composition - the busy left makes the right half of the frame so graphic! excellent!

Re: off camera speedlite usage (moved from General Board)

Dave, the reason for banning all radio triggering devices, I think, is stemming from the fact that the police and the other para police forces are still on some kind of very basic radio frequencies,...

Re: off camera speedlite usage (moved from General Board)

Ian, correct me if I am wrong - but the Canon Speedlite system is 'line of sight', and my project entails me to get some strobes shooting from behind columns etc. This is further complicated with me...

Re: off camera speedlite usage (moved from General Board)

Ian, this for outside - on location. I am working on a personal project which entails shooting glass workers inside a factory shed. It is like a long term documentary project that I have been...

Re: off camera speedlite usage (moved from General Board)

It is a chance that I will have to take. We currently have several thousand radio controlled airplanes lying around at the airport customs warehouse as they are all part of this 'ban'. Really silly...

Re: off camera speedlite usage (moved from General Board)

Thanks for the tips!
I am still assembling the kit to start experimenting. So far I have managed to get two Canon Speedlites and an old Vivitar. The import of radio triggers seem to be temporarily...

Re: iPhone shots

Every minute makes a difference to the colour rendering at that hour. The lower down the sun goes below the horizon, the more purples and blues get captured.

Re: Critique sought - Shadows.....

I agree with Ian. The keystone corrected black and white version would have looked so much more impactful had that background not been there. There is a serious clash of the foreground and...

Re: off camera speedlite usage (moved from General Board)

You are right - I had not noticed that! However, there is a hot-shoe that you can buy independently that has the 1/4" tripod mount, into which this can get fixed, or use a speedlight clamp.. which...

Re: off camera speedlite usage (moved from General Board)

I have an iMac with 8 gigs of RAM and it flies. My laptop is windows and therefore I stick to LR3 on it... but then this is going to start another thread! :)

Re: off camera speedlite usage (moved from General Board)

Lovely lighting! I like the soft glow on the face and the rim light highlighting the hair from the back. You might want to re-process this in LR4 now - I am told you can correct for multiple white...

Re: off camera speedlite usage (moved from General Board)

Good observation Ian. The reason I stayed away from strobes all these years was because I hated that harsh white light. It was only a few months ago that I started discussing the use of off camera...

Re: off camera speedlite usage (moved from General Board)

In my project I have multiple subjects - ergo multiple light sources required. I have a hunch this will work. Let me try and borrow receivers and strobes at the shop and test it out before putting...

Re: off camera speedlite usage (moved from General Board)

Thanks! I will wait for your input. I currently have one Canon 580 exII and a 430 ex, but I am planning on investing in 3-4 cheap Vivitars which are available locally and use them tucked away / off...

Re: off camera speedlite usage (moved from General Board)

Devilgas - thank you for your suggestion. The pocket wizards are way out of my budget at the moment, and I have been toying with using wireless transmitters and receivers off ebay as well. Ideally,...

Re: off camera speedlite usage (moved from General Board)

Ian, I am forced to use speedlights for my glass project, where the lighting is really low and unpredictable. It is not possible to use studio lights as they would get in the way of the people...
