  • What plant/tree is this?

This photo was taken in Andalucia quite a few years ago and I have seen it elsewhere in the world.

A friend of mine posted it on Facebook but didn't know what it was. I have Googled and can't find it. He then came back to me and said that it was the Aloe Vera plant, but when I do a search, although the blossom is yellow the Aloe Vera plant is much shorter. These are either a very tall plant or a tree, usually on a hillside and by themselves.

Does anyone know the name of it?

    Hi Audrey.

I believe your plant is an Agave. But not sure which one.

    Might be a Agave Amarillo.

Thanks, not easy to find. I think it is the Agave Americana. I have seen it quite a lot and am always drawn to it.

It apparently is also called the "Century" plant. Stupidly I thought "That figures" -that's what it looks like, "A Sentry".

Ironically they are the same plant. Or they look like the same plant.

        Your link shows Agave Americana.
The title to my link says Agave Amarillo.

But if you google Agave Amarillo, you will also get a link for Agave Americana,

Yes, and Aloe (Aloe Vera) is also mentioned, so they must all be of the same family, because most of the images look like the aloe vera plant, the Amarillo/Americana is probably the flowering version.

Well, I found a similar Aloe-plant on Pinterest and speaking of Pinterest...well, it turns out that Instagram has four times as much users. I don't have an Instagram account myself but does anyone know the logic behind them not allowing uploading via web-browsers?
