Re: Challenge: Where is this? IV

Try this one, OK it's a cricket ground but where?

There's one or two clues in the picture if your eyesite is good enough.

PS just to narrow it down a little it is a county ground.

You being an Essex Boy, Andy - I am only guessing but in your general neck of the woods I'd guess this is Chelmsford?

Nope, much further west and a bit north. Think Midlands.

Here's another clue, one of this grounds home team's most famous players was involved in a controversy in the 1960's that is thought to be an early move towards the end of aparteid in South Africa.

Last clue before I go on holiday. The hills in the background are famous for their waters.

I now know (or think I know) but I am out and about for a few days and won't be able to load a new one. If no one has got when I am in a position to load a new one I will give my answer then.

              Have a good holiday andym.

Re: Challenge: Where is this? IV

I recognised the ground, I saw the famous cricketer play there a couple of times in the late 60's early 70's. I wasn't very old but my parents were fans of the county team.

I can't upload or post photos from the BlackBlurry which is why I've not been posting answers.

Yep that's right. The famous cricketer was Basil D'Olivera and the hills are the Malverns.
This was taken a couple of weeks ago out of the window of the new hotel at the ground.
It's Premier Inn so you can get a room at a very good rate if you book in advance.

This one probably needs lots of clues, so - it's not in London or the home counties but it is in England and yes that's a river, not the sea. The boat they are paddling in is a clue as it's old...

                            More clues if needed!

From the style of the buildings, I'd guess at Salford Quays, Manchester?

I was going to post a clue about Dolly Mixtures in Lee and Perrins if no one got the cricket ground.
