Re: Challenge: Where is this? IV

I used to know someone who lived (maybe still lives?) there in the late 1980s and visited several times. One of my cousins also had a reception there in the hotel that forms part of the crescent.

OK - I will put my thinking cap on...

        OK, a clue - it's not Vienna.

That narrows it down. I don't think it is Lisbon, Madrid or Barcelona; all have similar statues I think. Jerez's statues are quite prolific, but I don't remember a viewpoint like this. Does four feet on the ground mean that the subject did not die in battle?

The subject lived to a good age for his time so not in battle. There is something in common to a type of cabbage but this clue could be misleading!

Another clue - the statue is fairly high up and overlooks a major water feature.

Are we the only two playing?

Your cabbage clue gave it to me. There are a couple of statues of him, but yours, I think, is in Budapest, probably Buda from the elevated position. I visited a great coffee/cake shop near there many years ago (in the days of film).

Well done Kurt - yes it's a statue of of Prince Eugene of Savoy (hence the cabbage reference) and it's high up overlooking the Danube that flows through Budapest.

                    Back to you Kurt!

Well here is an easy one - if you have seen it! And you could probably Google it, too.

Shouldn't there be 7 of them?

You are mixing these guys up with dwarves, these are a different species.

                            Time for a clue.

I believe the creatures are Elves, but there are claims that they are Heinzelmännchen (House Gnomes).

Yep, these are the Elves of Cologne who used to do the men's work until disaster fell and they left never to return.
