    not been on here for a while, but thought i'd mark the return with a couple of videos from last month's solar eclipse. - a 1Mb video made from ~250 still images shot using a very specific wavelength of light (hydrogen alpha) that shows prominences on the edge of the sun (look for the looping one at about the 8 o'clock position)

    and - a 1.5Mb video made from about 540 images, shot using solar film (same stuff as used in eclipse glasses) and colourised later. apart from the sun sliding behind the moon, the other feature to look out for is the sunspot about a 1/3 of the way in from the edge of the sun at the 10 o'clock position

    the full size videos show better detail, but the file sizes are quite large ;-)
