Unfortunately, where you have bird food, you usually have rats. I have only ever seen one at our feeder.
      He isn't here now

Ian he is not cute nor is the rest of the family he had with him. Squirrels now that's different as we do not have them over here and I would be more then happy to take their photos.

Garry we have fields with horses around us so they were there well before the bird feeders went up. Just the feeder gave them more choice of food

I've not seen a rat here but a fair number of mice over the years, usually inside the house and often in pieces!

Rodbender How on earth did that rat get into the feeder in the first place? I was wondering if it had trapped itself until I reached the end of your video

That wouldn't work with my squirrels - they can jump onto the feeders from the fence (about 3-4 feet!)

We actually encourage our squirrels. they come to the door for biscuits.

Brilliant ! Don't like rats. But you have to admire their tenacity.

Not a garden bird as such, although they used to land in my garden to feed...………..

This is an old ( you have probably seen it before ), but genuine photo. It remains one of my favourite shots.

The Mallard just got it all wrong, but then walked off completely unharmed.

Shame really, as he was very clean looking.

All the ones I have seen have been very clean. As they live in gardens and not sewers I can see how they would be cleaner then the rats that live there. Also the image we have of them from the media and such like makes us think the must be dirty.

Squirrels are rats with furry tails.

I would rather shoot squirrels then rats any day. Oh and I mean with the camera of course

Agreed, Ron. But that one detail makes them rather cute and photogenic.
