Thank you once more to Gez for running the previous salon
***Please note - there are some changes introduced to make the salon easier to participate in; see below**
What's a salon and why is it fun?!
For anyone new to this, a 'salon' is defined for this use as a regular exhibition of art, or in our case, photos!
Our adaptation involves some friendly competition. The idea is that the winner of the previous salon (chosen by the winner of the one before that) gets to choose the topic for the next one. The incumbent is called the 'curator'.
Forum members are invited to post up to two images conforming (as closely or loosely as you like) to the chosen topic. Last time it was 'CROWD' chosen by the previous curator, Gez, who chose my entry as his preferred image. So it's now my turn to be the curator and I have chosen the theme of 'LIGHT' the type of light that is bright or dark, not the one associated with weight or mass!
No need to use the forum gallery from now on
Until now, it has been a condition of the salon that entries be uploaded via the forum gallery. It is no secret that the gallery is rather clunky and this does put some people off. As part of the impending modernisation of the forum, the gallery is scheduled to be retired. The new forum will have more comprehensive image posting options than the current forum.
In advance of this, I have decided to officially relax the rules for the salon, so you can now post your images from external sites; my only condition is that they display in-line within the forum post. Please let me know if you need any assistance in doing this.
I also recommend that you keep the maximum width to no more than 1600 pixels and height to 1200.
The amended rules
Here are the amended rules. Above all, we're mainly sharing our photos according to the currently nominated topic - and enjoying them
1. Photographs must be displayed within a forum post and posted in this thread. Please keep images to no wider than 1600 pixels and no taller than 1200 pixels.
2. TWO entries maximum per user ID only, please, which must be the personal work of the entrant.
3. Comments on entries are welcome within the salon thread itself. In fact, comments are to be encouraged!
4. After the close, the curator will indicate a winner and a couple of runners up.
5. The curator’s decision is final.
6. The winner will be invited to choose the next theme and curate the next salon.
7. If the winner is unable to curate the next salon the current curator may offer that ‘honour’ to any willing volunteer, possibly the entrant in second or third place.
8. These rules are to be copied and pasted with the new theme by the curator at the top of the new salon thread with a finish date and time.
9. To clarify, the copyright of images posted to the forum or gallery become part of the site's copyright, but only for the protection of the owner of the image. The owner of this site will NEVER claim ownership or additional use of any image without the agreement of the owner of the image.
The deadline for entries this time is Midnight Friday, 22nd February 2019, GMT.
As a bit of inspiration, here is an image I recently took using an Honor View 20 smartphone that I have been testing. It's not as steady as I would have liked but it's an example of where light dominates the image:

But please don't feel you need to do light-painting; anything where the light is what makes the picture feel special to you is what the purpose of this salon's theme is all about!
I'm really looking forward to seeing how this salon turns out.
Ian
