Dennis has just been in touch to say that he has solved the problem - it was his network firewall that was blocking things.

Dennis, I will PM you with Adobe's last Email to me. There is a phone number and I believe it was free. The calls never cost me anything.

    Hello Dennis

I had a similar problem when I upgraded to LR5 and my files were converted from LR4.

Funnily enough it was just my India images which were affected. They came up black saying that there was a fault. I could play other videos files.

I contacted Adobe and they were very helpful and remotely helped my to solve the problem. It was not easy and did not happen immediately. In fact, the technician admitted that he did not know what was wrong and had to escalate my problem to someone senior. After many hours on the phone and them being remotely attached to my computer, the problem was solved. I don't think that there was any easy explanation but they kept on trying and also kept emailing me to see if I was satisfied with their help.

I am giving you the following link to where other people have had similar problems.

If between yourself and Ian you don't solve it, I would not hesitate to contact them.

Good Luck and Happy New Year!

Hi Ian - Thanks for reply. I always unload my memory cards straight to a file on the hard drive then import into Lightroom from there. Inccidentally I have no trouble importing Photos into Lightroom from the hard drive it is just thes videos files (*.Mov) into Lightroom. Let me know if you have any success with a video file.

Hi Dennis - this should work. I have a K-500 in the office at the moment so I will try to replicate your issue. Are you importing from a memory card?

    Importing videos to Lightroom 5

I have been trying to import some short videos (*.Mov) into Lightroom 5.3 with little success. When I hit Import it retrieves thumbnails which have a video camera symbol on them. When I then hit Import for these a progress bar in the top left of the Window starts to move along to about half way, displays "Importing Files" in the middle of the window then freezes.
No matter how long I wait it never finishes and if I then hit Cancel a message "No photos or videos found to Import" !!.
Can anyone tell me if there is some setup in Lightroom that I may be missing. The videos were filmed with the new Pentax K3 camera as a matter of interest.
Working...
