  • "Out of Bounds" Technique in PhotoShop

Just discovered a nifty feature in PhotoShop Elements (version 9 and later?) called Out of Bounds. I used a grainy shot of me at this year's National Championships to experiment with it.

It's a little tricky to get it right but I'll keep experimenting with it. Have any of you used it?

There are so many features hidden away in PS - I have not even heard of this one!

Nor me but it looks like it could be fun to mess about with on a dull afternoon.

This small laptop has Elements 11 installed so I'm gonna have a look and see if I can uncover it.

Here's a link to the tutorial I used.

And here's another effort using the photo I submitted to the Joy and Laughter Challenge. Selecting the area outside the frame is tricky. I experimented with different settings. Note that there is a separate brush to remove selections you don't want.

Yay, thanks for that! I've now found the out-of-bounds feature in Elements 11 after scrolling through the 'guided' options.

I see it's the same sort of thing as doing it manually in CS6 (or other versions of CS) but maybe the guided Elements 11 technique will be quicker and less fiddly.

My long term back problems stem from RSI after faffing about too often and too long in PS. I used to have a bad habit of sitting on my curled up leg and foot as I worked.

              Hi Pat -

Here is a pic I took a few years ago and converted to OOB sometime later and updating it recently.

I had a fad for doing OOB pics long time ago.
These were done the old fashioned way using layers etc.

Those are incredible! Great imagination in constructing them too.

Just the old fashioned way in CS5:
