  • What this new forum board is all about

We all enjoy the final results after an image has been edited. But I know it's an interesting journey - the differences between what you started with and what you finished with can be stark and amazing. Here are a couple of examples from me but I am sure many of you have even more striking before and after examples to show!

    Before:

(the middle frame in a 7-frame sequence of 2/3rd stop bracketed shots)

    After:

The 7 brackets combined and processed in Photoshop CS6.

    Before:

    After:

Feel free to discuss and comment, but what we'd really like is to see some examples of yours!

    Great idea Ian!

Here's a before and after treatment of a shot I took in Amsterdam in 2010. The only thing I did was bump up the saturation.

          Truly amazing results.

Ian, I would have dumped your 1st before shot immediately on seeing it without giving a thought to any recovery attempt. Nice piece of work.

            Before & After

In my early days of digital, I wasn't convinced that I'd use it more than film, so just got an Olympus C8080WZ rather than a full DSLR.
I didn't even have any "Processing" software. One return from a trip to Norfolk, I set about seeing what I could do without spending a fortune on Photoshop.

This was one that I was very disappointed with, as I had really messed up the exposure, along with other things

Then I discovered, what I still consider to be one of the best B&W convertors, in the Picasa software.
Using the "Filter on B&W" and multiple "Graduated Filters" plus the usual crop, rotate, align, etc., the end result was this.
I printed this one and it did quite well in club competitions.

Another shot from our Rhine Cruise in 2010. These leaves were on a wall in Cochem, Germany in the heart of the Mosel Wine District. I copied one leaf in Photoshop and pasted it over the flawed area and again bumped up the saturation (maybe too much?).

There were many on display and lots of interest in them, I waited about 20 minutes for this pic just showing three of them without bodies - apart from a half of a pigeon which I left in for a reason.

I commented on this elsewhere - but I really like the way this has turned out, Barr1e - can you share with us a little about how you did this?

Re: What this new forum board is all about

I was digging through shots from a trip to Hawaii in 2004 and ran across this shot. You rarely see Diamondhead from above. Taking the shot through the plane's window produced a less than satisfying shot. This morning I opened it in PhotoShop Elements and did nothing more than "Auto Smart Fix" with the following result.

It is amazing how many data are hidden into a digital raw file. The original is a dull and not very nice picture as I saw the scene with my eyes. But the info was revived by editing
