This is Andrews third photo in the Golden Gallery, and we think its a belter. The high dynamic range (HDR) created by blending several images together, has worked well here without giving it so much of a false appearance common with some HDR shots and often caused by poor tone mapping in the software. Andrew used 7 exposures of 1 stop each and we can see that the sky and land areas have been controlled well.
Andrew was up the hill at 8am to take the shot, something we should take note of.......... you have to put yourself out to get the great shots........no pain no gain!! However its not just about HDR, getting up early etc. Andrew has created a great composition, and the letterbox style crop enhances this. The path and slope lead the eye down to the town and the plain beyond. There is a haze still lying on the land and the suns rays pick this up beautifully. Finally a subtle desaturation of the image gives a result that is almost surreal.
