I think perhaps what slightly separates this shot from 'the common' is the transparent paper-thin bud lining (or whatever it's called) and the way the lighting picks up the 'wrinkles' of the petals. I should also add that I find it hard to rate flower shots.

This shot works for me. The colours are intense and contrast well plus there is plenty of detail in sharp focus to maintain interest. I think the inclusion of the out of focus unopened bud makes for a strong composition.
