This is a very simple, but I find rather pleasing, composition. I arranged three sentinel candles on a table, with the nearest just a couple of inches from the front of an Olympus Zuiko Digital 12-60mm (24-120 equivalent) lens, set to the widest end of the zoom range. To enable all three candles to be in focus I used f/22. There isn't much fine detail, so diffraction softening at f/22 isn't an issue. I used a Manfrotto 190CXPro4 tripod with the centre column mounted horizontally (as this tripod allows), enabling the lens to over-hang the table at just above table height. Did take the shot in landscape mode, but ended up cropping the sides for a vertical format. I chose a low ISO speed and appropriate shutter speed to isolate the tops of the candles, leaving them glowing in black background.
