Trevor White aka ddigit on the DPNow forums hails from New Zealand, and its here that provides the inspiration for his photography.

He says about this photo "Skins"
"A farm in the lower part of the South Island New Zealand. An unusual way of drying skins. Coupled with an unusual cloud formation I thought that this made a unique photo."

We would agree and think that the landscape that is sheep country has been given a slightly macabre twist with something that may well be a not uncommon site in the area.

The wire fence, the afforested areas and closely cropped grassland show this is a managed landscape and yet this contrasts with the natural limestone outcrop, it could in some ways be in the Yorkshire Dales of the UK. However the skins add foreground interest and maybe raise some questions in our minds as to Why?

Trev has 'worked' the image though and his sensitive and subtle vignette concentrates the eye and I would suggest the same applies to a slight desaturation of the colours which means that there is a slightly muted feel to the tones . Then of course there is that sky which adds further drama to the scene. Trevs signature frame sets the whole picture off and almost provides us with a window into a place about as far away as you can get from home

There's something almost 'surreal' about this, something artistic that really appeals to me. I also love the colours and 'lines' (skins, clouds, rocks, fence) which have a sort of humorous arty appeal about them. I'd be having a poster from this one if it were mine. Does that make me a sicko? Dunno.

Surreal was the word that struck me too Pol when I looked at the picture first, then it went clean out of my head when I wrote the above.

As you would expect with Trevor, the scene even ignoring the skins is interesting - just look at the sky. But the very unusual and slightly disturbing skins really make this shot.
