Egham, UK – 24 May 2016: Freecom announces the introduction of the mHDD Slim – a compact, lightweight and stylish portable drive in a strong metal enclosure that joins a wider family of new Desktop HDD and SSD products.

56370 Global 3DAvailable in 1TB and 2TB capacities, the mHDD Slim storage device weighs just 150g and only 0.9cm thick. Customers choosing the 2TB model can expect to typically store up to 4,000 movies, 500,000 photos or 900,000 songs.

To enable Mac and PC owners to benefit from improved connectivity, the mHDD Slim is available with two cables: USB Type-C and USB 3.0. The drive is FAT32 formatted which allows it to be used interchangeably between Windows and Mac computers without reformatting.  For content with files sizes larger than 4GB, software is supplied on the drive to reformat to HFS+ for Macs and NTFS for PCs.

With an elegant brushed aluminium enclosure mirroring the stylish exterior of Macbooks, the mHHD is available in three colours: silver, gold and space grey.

The drive comes pre-installed with Nero Backup Essentials software for full system backup and restore functionality which allows users to schedule automatic backups by date and time, compress files to save space, or encrypted backup with password protection. The HDD also has USB Rec&Play to allow the drive to act as a video recorder for TVs that support USB connectivity, allowing recording, playback and even pausing of live TV.

The mHDD 1TB model has a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of £85.99 (109.99 euros) and £124.99 (159.99 euros) for the 2TB model.

Freecom mHDD Desktop and mSSD drives

The mHHD Slim joins a set of larger mHDD Desktop hard drives with USB 3.0 connectivity available in 2TB, 4TB and 8TB capacities (priced at £85.99 (109.99 euros), £124.99 (159.99 euros) and £269.99 (339.88 euros) respectively). These robust storage devices, which weigh up to 1kg for the 8TB model, are also available in the very stylish, textured metal exterior design.

These drives join the Freecom mSSD, a mini solid-state drive with USB 3.0 connectivity. Significantly smaller (by volume) and lighter than a golf ball, the Freecom mSSD strikes a very appealing balance between portability and high-speed performance.

Notes

1.) USB 3.0 has data transfer speeds of up to 430MB/s. Type-C is a universal connector that’s also capable of twice the theoretical throughput of USB 3.0.

2.) TVs in some countries may not support USB Rec&Play. A list of compliant TV sets is available here: http://goo.gl/EgTJ5F
