  • Heron with Frog

Have tried to get this sort of shot for the last couple of years but never had any luck.

Anyway, I tried Friday morning...nothing. Went again Sunday morning and all of a sudden the frogs went quiet. When I say quiet there were hundreds of them and they sound like Motorcross bikes, unbelievable really.

Then, just like buses two Herons came, but, both behind the hide, oh no, I thought, or words very similar.

I could hear them and after about 20 mins one walked straight past my hide and into view. I watched it for about a minute or two while it waited for, and then speared a frog, turned round, and started to walk out of the water. It was too close really and I had my 300mm lens on but I could'nt resist taking a shot or two knowing it would probabaly hear the camera and sod off, which it did.

Oh well, at least I got what I think is a decent shot.

Fantastic picture and what a great account - patience and dedication won in the end

PS I feel a bit sorry for the frog!

And Mick, this surely has to be a hot contender for the 'Natural' theme of the current Salon (closes midday on Wednesday!)...

                  Wow.

I thought I took a pretty good shot of a heron near where we live recently. This one though is incredible.

                  Congratulations and thanks for showing.

Barr1e, WHAT are you doing here?

Seriously, Mick used a hide to get this close. I know someone on the e-group site has recently invested in a hide. Maybe Mick's success could be due in part to a new trend un using hides?

Yay - you scored a winner there, Mick.

I reckon you got a better catch than than the Heron.
