Photo critique Here is where you can display your images and seek the comment, advice and, maybe, constructive critique of your work. Only post your images here if you are happy for frank feedback. If in doubt, use the beginners board instead. Only post your comments here if you feel you can make a constructive and polite contribution in response to what is, for some, a leap of faith in exposing their work to your critical comment.

Portrait with textured layer

I'd like some feedback on this image from a shoot this week. I've been learning about textures and layers this week and need feedback.

Incidentally, I've been building a website and put DPN on the links page. so if you fancy a look click here.

Re: Portrait with textured layer

Hi

So I really like the colour work you have done and the texture of the picture. Re the composition I really want to see the whole of the other wing. For me it is all of both wings or none. I don't know why it could be about balance of the picture.

Best regards

Josh

Re: Portrait with textured layer

Its a really nice photo Gina. The missing bit of wing on the left doesn't particularly bother me, however I can see there is a sort of problem with balance as Josh suggests. I'm wondering if its the fact that the child is on the left, but is pretty much looking towards the left also. Whereas I wonder if she would have been better looking to the right, into the picture.

Had a look at the website too Gina, very good, I like it. Clicking on Links seems to lead me to Guestbook though

Re: Portrait with textured layer

Thank you both for your input - it's not one of my better shots because of the composition balance as mentioned but it is a first regarding textured layers so I will be looking at this more.

Thanks for looking at the site Stephen, It's an ongoing process and I will be titivating it for some time.

I will be posting some more textured images in due course.

I too like your website Gina! Well done! Working with textures etc in layers can be very rewarding! Do you make your own textures? I haven't tried it myself yet! I believe with a little imagination, the scope is endless!
