Hi its been a while

Not been on here for a long time, I seem to have lost my spark and passion for photography and decided to return to the place I loved once and was pretty much my inspiration for all my work. For all on the forum that no me, alot has happened and Im glad to say after many attempts and sadness you may not have been aware, a new born baby is due in feb and me,my wife & Thomas are thrilled.

I feel on a high with my personal life but on so much a low that I have not continued the passion I love, Im even considering selling my d700, so any offers!

This will probably be moved but this pic was taken a couple of days ago on a tz5 on marsden moor huddersfield.

Im not after any smoke up my rear, and my track record does not exactley exume confidence in giving me critique but I just wanted to share a little something thats been taken by me.

Thanks for all your years of support and kindness.

Re: Hi its been a while

Hi Ash, good to see you around again. Sorry to hear about your ups and downs, but with a new baby arriving next month, you will have your hands full anyway.

Photography is like any hobby, you can't stop thinking about it an then the honeymoon period is over and things become mundane and you wonder why you were ever so obsessed, but sometimes it is other things that take priority, and you get back to your hobby when you can (art, golf etc). At least with photography, you can try out things in the kitchen or the dining room table. You can't get out for golf in this weather, or with a baby strapped to your back.

Back to your image, I like it very much, the lighting is beautiful and I am sure if your interest had faded, you must be quite chuffed with this. You don't get much opportunity in most years to get snowy pictures! BTW hang on to your camera for a while, you have a new baby to photograph! A Happy New Year to you and your family.

Ash - I totally agree with Autumn - keep that camera, as it will come in so handy over the next weeks and months.

Wishing you and your family all the very best with the new babe, and hope that all will go well.

Re: Hi its been a while

Welcome back, Ash and congratulations for the coming new baby. It's quite natural that there are ups and downs in passion. Having lower passion days is just a recharging period which might be sometimes necessary to be ready for the next high period. Just upload pics whenever you want/can without feeling to be obliged to do so. That's what hobby is. As landscape is my major genre, I like the atomospher this image creates btw.

Hi Ash,

I'd say hang onto yer kit - no point in getting rid of it if it's bought and paid for or you might just have to start all over again at some point in the future.

In the meantime - just enjoy snapping away, pointing and shooting in a relaxed and pleasurable way. There's absolutley no need to feel you have to be an ace togfa, no need to feel you have to prove anything to anyone. Just hang onto the kit and ENJOY in your own way - that's all that matters.

That's all I ever do anyway because it's a hobby, a pastime, fun and a means of recording life as I see it as and when I feel inclined to grab a few pics. Just take loads of candid shots of the family and kids, get them printed, store them in albums then you can enjoy them for years to come.

There's no need whatsoever to share them with anyone else - no need to put them online, no need to aim to be a pro or semi-pro. Just enjoy being 'Daddy' and I'm in no doubt whatsoever that you will ... and that the kids will love you to bits and enjoy posing for you and looking at the pics for many years to come.

Pol

Re: Hi its been a while

Hi Ash, lovely to hear your news - sorry about the late response but been internet-less here at home for over 24 hours (still down but resorting to using my mobile as a modem!).

I'm sure we'll have lots more pix from you closer to the time!

Ian

Re: Hi its been a while

Hi Ash -

How nice to see you on here again.

I hit a low sometime in the past. Fortunately, now history. I hope you find the same - especially with the new addition arriving.

Congratulations to both of you and best wishes to the whole family.

Let 2010 be special.

Regards. Barr1e

Re: Hi its been a while

Thanks for your reply's and advice, my considering selling the d700 was a downgrade of sort. A d700 is alot of camera to have lying around not earning its keep so to speak. Just a bit of advice for anyone thinking of upgrading from a d200/300 to a d700, 600-700 quid for a bit extra low light performance I dont no, if your pictures are earning you money then sure go for it, if your an amatuer looking for a better camera then ide seriously consider spending your money on maybe a better lens for your d200/300.
If you already have a top nikon lens then you have more money than me and you should go for it all!!

Its all too easy to get caught up in the whole upgrade thing these days and 'need to have the best' sort of thing which I am guilty of
When I look at my old pictures taken with my first dslr, pentax ist ds, the quality was just fine, and even some of the shots with my minolta a2 were pretty good even at todays standards.

Ive decided to stick with nikon as I have nikon lenses, so maybe a d80 or d90 would ideally suite my casual needs taking the odd landscape and baby shot!

Listen at me I can't help it, I can never give a short post
I can't help but try and give advice on something Im totally not qualified

Im glad Ive returned to dpnow, can't say all will be chuffed but Ive decided to take a back seat and overview dpnow to get some inspiration to re kindle my passion(good advice) I used to get a bit too involved and sensitive about posts, not good for your blood pressure and that keyboard can only take so much hammering

Thanks again
Ash.

Well Ash, I reckon that advice about spending your money on a good quality lens (instead of upgrading the camera) is good, sound advice!

A good lens really is the better investment in my opinion too.

Re: Hi its been a while

Hey Ash,
Glad you are still with us I like the picture and congrats on the family addition to be.
Something that I read on another forum might work for you. A new member to that forum introduced himself as a "family photo journalist" and went on to show some shots that did have that PJ look, but conveyed the family history flow, instead of that stuff we see in the papers. I'm not sure the fellow came back to the forum, but his "family photo journalist" tag stayed in my mind.
