Question Card Failure

Have just experienced my 1st card failure

I wondered if there was any reputable independent data on who makes the most reliable cards

Suggestions for image recovery would also be welcome, BUT: I've tried it in 4 bodies and 3 readers, so the "Dead Parrot" springs to mind...

Re: Card Failure

Can't find a smiley for "a sharp intake of breath" Graham so this'll have to do - worse nightmare if it's something important that you are shooting! At the back of my mind I think I came across a site that was quite indepth on memory cards - but the back of my mind is currently a long way away! If I can dredge it up I'll post it.

A quiet lie down and gentle thoughts of trees did the trick. This is the one I was think about Graham.

Exclamation Re: Card Failure

Jo,

Thanks for the info. As you can imagin I have done everything I can think of to try to get this working again.

It's one of my Olympus XD Type "H" that I use in my mju1030SW which is my "always with me" camera, so it gets a lot of use.

I used it like most people do, straight out the box in the camera and off you go. Has anyone ever read the instructions for a memory card.

Well you may just want to:

"Like all flash memory, the xD-Picture Card has a limited life span, and will eventually become incapable of performing WRITE/ERASE functions after long term use"

So what constitutes long term use They only have a 2 year warranty so it may be a good idea to get new ones now and then.

Some data on failures would be nice to know about, so we can make a judgement call on this. So if anyone has such info., please share...

Re: Card Failure

google for photorec. have used it in the past to recover jpg's from cards, but it does need to be able to see the card. it's a freebie and worth trying.

Re: Card Failure

Thanks everyone. I've resigned myself to it being dead

It would be nice to see some "real world" reliability figures on cards rather than the MTBF numbers that the makers claim.

No. It's dead, so will be going back to Olympus for warranty replacement.
