Evening Island Return (Revisited)

I got a comment on my POTD "Evening Island Return" that it would also look nice if instead of the horizon there was the island that the ferry took off from.
While the girl was not there when the ferry took off, I found a similar picture showing the ferry leaving the island. Though it is not so much of an evening return now since the picture of the island was taken on sunny afternoon.

So I did some kind of blending and here is the new photo with the girl and the island together.
I would like to hear your comments on which version you prefer better, the original or the revised one.

I like the revised one. The addition of the Island provides a lot more interest to the picture. Although I didn't think the original needed it until I saw this one.

I would say that the revised shot is a lot more interesting, but 1st shot has its merits of being peaceful & thought provoking!

Thanks for commenting. I agree with you 100%. The 2nd artificial transformation is interesting to me too, but I find the original one to be more suitable to my liking. The view of the empty sea does exactly what you said. It is "more peaceful and thought provoking". That was exactly the reason that made me submit the original one in the first place.
Both versions are OK though, in representing slightly different feelings and other peoples opinions also interesting in helping a photographer to adapt or adjust his views of interpeting a theme

I much prefer the original as the mood and lighting made the image for me. The second has lost that mood and the top rail of the boat cuts the image into just what it is. Two pictures one above the other. Had the dividing line been less prominent, ie some sea before land then it may have worked. Even applying some out of focus blur to the top half would make it look more natural.

Something alone these lines.

Hi Archangel,
A nice job, I don't know which I prefer they both have thier merits so I will have to call it a draw in my eyes. HOWEVER if pushed, after some study of both images, the second ever so slightly has the edge, as the top railing in the first seems to grate a little and unsettle the viewer.

Afraid this doesn't work for me, personally. I liked the dreamy, almost surreal nature of the original. The revised version just seems like a holiday snapshot to me.

Hi I an,

I liked the dreamy shot too better than the artificial one and that is why I posted the original shot in the first place.
Though, Stephen quoted on the POTD thread, that the island being visible in the background could be an interesting alternative choice (which actually is).
So, I had to experiment with Stephen's suggestion and for curiosity by doing an artificial version with the island on the background.

I hope Stephen will read this thread in regard to the "snob" thread and realize that I don't only offer my personal comments or advices, but I also adopt/experiment with other photographers' suggestions/advices too

George, I immediately saw what you had done in the way of experimenting, I acknowledge that. It is unfortunate however that in this instance what you achieved by photo manipulation has not worked as well as it might have done had you been able to get a shot in the camera with the island in view.

I have said before though that its often difficult to get all the right elements coming together at the same time I still believe that if the island had been in view in the distance of the original shot, it may have worked. No problem though, your original shot was well received and worked for the majority here.

I tried to experiment with your suggestion, but I'm not good in these type of special effects. Someone more experienced may have done better in creating this artificial photo with the island and it probably could look better. I do have a photo of the island from a far distance but I cannot perform this type of glueing because as I said my skills in these types of effects are very limited.

I think it would look nice if there was an original shot with the girl and the far distant island together, but when I had the each one in the frame it was always missing the other
