SOLVED I'm getting purple lines across the top of my Canon Powershot A75 pictures

Here's a problem that relates to hot weather:

Just lately, since the weather turned hot, I have noticed purple lines across the top of pictures I have taken with my Canon Powershot A75 digital camera. The camera is three years old and out of guarantee. But it was taking great pictures until the other day.

Have you experienced a similar problem with a Canon compact camera bought around 3-4 years ago?

Hi Ian,

Taken today by my wife with the very same camera:



No problems with the image quality, still using it to this day.

However, Jen reported that today was the first time the screen flashed intermittently, it had white lines accross it.

Is the purple line visible purely using the preview, or when the image is downloaded, I have had a quick look online to see if other users have experienced anything, and there does seem to be a few, but only on the LCD.

Hi Ben, well the problem with a number of compact Canon compact Powershot models, including some Ixus models, is well documented and forced Canon to issue an admission that there was a manufacturing fault that made some cameras vulnerable to a condition where some electrical contacts connecting the sensor failed when the camera got very hot, especially in hot weather. This was four years ago and Canon offered free servicing for affected cameras at the time. I don't know if that offer is still on the table though.

Just found this thread through google. My ixus 400 from 2003 just started showing this a couple of weeks back! I think after 8 years it's had a good life, just sad to see it die.
