Some advice please?

Hi all. I want to buy my 9yr daughter her own compact p&s as she is always asking to borrow my cameras. I am looking for some advice from you guys here as to what to buy, what have you used etc etc.

I have a budget of around £200 and have found the Canon PowerShot A1100IS. (£159) Now it comes in pink and she likes that but my only gripe with this is it uses two AA batteries in it and not a rechargeable one like in my IXUS.

In the past I have used cameras that use batteries and they don't (haven't) lasted five min's. My mum currently has a compact, a cheap one at that and it goes through batteries like there is no tomorrow so I am a bit put off buying a cam that takes AA's.

Manual control would help too as she is still learning quite a lot so the ability to override the standard settings must be there.

Does anyone use/recommend a compact that fits the bill mentioned above?

Thanks.

Hi

Its possible to buy AA rechargeable batteries, that give a long life.
How old is the camera that eats batteries, modern ones are much more efficient.

Re: Some advice please?

The main reason for using Lithium ion batteries these days is for compactness. Modern digital cameras no longer suck batteries dry in no time. AA NiMH rechargeables are very good value and if you run out of charge you can use readily available alkalines in an emergency. 2000 mAH or greater will last very well.

If you get 'long life' NiMH batteries, like Sanyo's 'Eneloop' brand, then unlike standard NiMH batteries you won't find they lose their charge over time even if they aren't being used.

Re: Some advice please?

In my Fuji S9500 I use 4 2800 batteries from 7 day shop:

Very good value. I have used them for years. Of course we always take a battery charger with us when we go on holiday. If you ordered 2 or 3 sets, you will always have spares.

Thank you for the replies.

I think I will give it a go with this Canon one and try using the rechargable batteries in the link above.

Thanks again
