  • A big thank you for all the feedback

    Hi everyone

Last night saw our last photo club meeting with the subject being sunset/sunrise. I put in 3 picture's 2 of which picked up a 2nd place each. I was well chuffed with that result but what this meant over all was that over the last year and in my first year of entering photo's in to a club environment I was able to place 2nd in the 6x4 class and 3rd in the A4 class. One of our lady members one both classes with another longstanding lady member beating me in to 3rd from 2nd on the night. Now the reason for this post is not to brag but to thank you all that have given me feed back throughout the year It has been a great help.

Here are the two picture's that I put in the first is from the A4 class the 2nd the 6x4 class. I did enter a 3rd picture in the A4 class which is one of my favorite photos of the year but it did not place but I may have more news on that one to come and if so will post and let you know. I will post it here as well but I think many of you will have seen it before.

Oh and I see that Stephen has add one of these to his favorites list. Thank you for that Stephen I always knew you had a good eye and for you to have done that means a lot to me.

          Hello Peter

Congratulations. I know what the feeling is like, as I also submit photos to our club competitions. In another thread I have put 2 up for critique - the subject is 'Metal'. I also have others to submit.

Back to your photos. Obviously, over the past 10 years that I have been a member of our Society, I have seen many winners and I know yours would hold up well with our winners.

          Well done.

            Thanks Autumn

I know that some people nowadays think clubs are old hat with the Internet and almost instant feed back on photos but having been in one now I can see this is not true. The things I have enjoyed is seeing how different people will put across a picture, going out and working out what you are going to do with a subject, working on the picture then printing it off and then having to wait and see how it comes across on the night. Things I have learned are think a bit more out side the box, have fun even if you do not do well on the night you will always come away having learned something and the big one for me is do not put all your eggs in one basket.

Well done Pete ..... all those windswept evenings standing in a force six gale with the sea almost at your feet paid off after all

And well done Mo ..... nothing wrong with a little brotherly rivalry

                Thanks for that Jem

Yes walking around in the dark and sitting on the odd rock or two looks like it paid off in the end.

                  Just so Peter.
What you have said of clubs being old hat is thought of as true by many particularly the young (by that I mean younger than 40), but as you point out internet chat and posting to various showcase sites although valuable is not quite the same as spontaneous reaction of fellow photographers and judges, off the moment.
I do see a change, and digital is the catalyst. More & more people are buying cameras and this is leading to a deeper interest in photography and a desire to be more proficient. People are checking out the internet but also joining clubs to learn. We are regularly welcoming new members at our club, and our membership numbers are as high if not higher than older members can remember.
I have been a club animal now for more years than I care to remember, it has its frustrations but mostly its thoroughly enjoyable.
